Running Story
In the New Jersey town I grew up in, you either played a sport or had to join the marching band. Since I equated joining the marching band to social suicide, I signed up for Cross Country. I loved my high school team but a skiing accident sidelined me for my junior and senior year. Fast forward to 2005, I just had my 4th surgery to correct my knee from the high school skiing accident and I found myself over-weight and out of shape. My doctor informed me that it was either lose weight and get into shape or suffer thru yearly knee surgeries. The choice was obvious….
I started out on the elliptical, moved to spin and in the fall of 2007, I started running again. My first race was the NYRR Mini 10k on June 7, 2008. It was a typical hot, humid NYC day but I never felt more alive while standing amongst all those women ready to take on the hills of Central Park. I finished in 1:01:52 but crossing that finish line was just the beginning.
Since then, I have run 8 marathons, 20+ half marathons and countless 5k’s, 10k’s, 4 milers, 5 milers and every distance in between. I love races and pretty much sign up for as many as I possibly can. Since my first race in Central Park, I have run nearly 80. Needless to say, I have loads of bibs, a rather extensive t-shirt collection and am definitely the girl to call if you are low on safety pins.
