Discarded Baby Items

You can always find lists of must have baby items and I even posted one myself after little man was born.  But sometimes you need a list of things not to buy or what one mother didn’t end up using.  Here is my didn’t need, hated or do not buy list…

1. L’s high chair

I bought this Carter’s high chair at Babies R Us for super cheap.  I think it cost $49 because it was a discontinued style.  Well, there is a reason it was being discontinued.  It is small, really hard to clean and just plain annoying to use.  The high chair was good when he was 1st sitting in one but now it stinks.  The OXO Tot Sprout Chair has already been ordered.

2.  Swaddles

Not all babies like to be swaddled and I learned that the hard way.   3 sleepless nights of L screaming later, we realized he likes to have his arms out and move his legs.  He’s a sleep sack sort of man and still is.

3. Baby cookies

I bought a couple of the Ella’s kitchen baby cookies and L hated them.  Save your money and just go with animal crackers, graham crackers or Nilla Wafers.  L is a HUGE Nilla Wafer fan.  Our neighbor volunteers at a women and children’s shelter so I was able to donate all of our unused baby items and food.

4.  Footed 6-9 month clothing (without the non-slip foot bottoms)

I had bought and been given clothes for 6-9 months before L made his big arrival.  Many of the pants had covered feet and that’s definitely a problem when L was already a stander at 6 months and a walker at 9 months.  He wore the footed pants for a bit but kept slipping on the hardwood floors while trying to stand.  All those cute clothes had to be put away before they were even worn.  :(

5. Exersaucer

I was gifted an exersaucer and a jumperoo at my baby shower.  L HATED the exersaucer but LOVED the jumperoo.  No rhyme or reason to his like and dislike but he did love bouncing up and down in the jumperoo.

You never know what your baby is going to like and I have definitely over-prepared myself.  Better being over-prepared than not, right?

What baby items did you hate or didn’t use at all?

So true! My “Didn’t Need Items” were the Excersaucer, The Swing, Baby Hats and special bottles to transition from breast to bottle. =)
