Cold Weather Running Gear

I only thought it would be fitting to discuss cold weather running gear on a day NY/NJ is expecting a monster snowstorm.

White flag!  White flag!  I give up Winter weather.  You 20 degree temps, negative wind chill factors and large amounts of snow have me wanting to hibernate.  Please let Spring come soon.

Even though I’ve become a big cold weather running wimp this year, I have run in snow and sub-freezing temps.  I wasn’t always a big baby. :)  I always wear a running jacket in the winter and this year I’m sporting Oiselle’s Mac Jacket.

A thicker tight keeps my legs warmer in the winter and I’ve loved Oiselle’s Lesley Running Tight.   I also find that Lululemon’s Groove Pants keep my legs nice and toasty as well.  Bonus for Lulu Groove Pants – they transition to indoor treadmill running a lot better than heavy tights.

I change-up my running shirt depending on the outside temps.  Sub freezing or close to it, you’ll find me in a heavy running turtleneck.  High 30′s to 50′s, then I go with a long-sleeved tech shirt.

My sock and sneakers remain the same but I always wear gloves.  My hands get really cold.  So cold that I lose feeling and they become sheet white.  It’s not a pretty sight so any temp below 50 degrees, I wear gloves.  Yup, I am that weirdo who wears gloves while others are still running in shorts.

Usually I just grab any gloves lying around the house but right now I am sporting the NYRR NYC Marathon gloves.

Oh the 2012 NYC Marathon…I spent so much money on you and you left me wanting more.

I wish I could tell you I wear a hat but I don’t.  For some reason hats make my head sweat and make me really uncomfortable.  Random, I know.

So that’s what I wear when the weather gets chilly.  What is your favorite cold weather gear?

  1. You run in those lulu groove pants? I love the style, but was wondering if the “flair” fabric at the end of the pants got in your way?

I’m looking for new outdoor running pants since my running tights from pre-preg are a bit too small now :)

I do run in the groove pants and I love them. Sometimes you can feel the flair fabric hit each other when you run but most of the time it doesn’t. I find them really easy to run in and they are super flattering too. I’ve been running in the lulu groove pants for years.
