Changing My Ways

I know, I know, I totally owe you a post about the Disney Half Marathon I ran last Saturday.  I was going for sub 2 hours but that didn’t happen.  It was hot, my legs were tired from the start, the race was really crowded and I ended up with a 2:09.   Oh well, can’t win them all.  I had fun though and that’s what matters in the long run (at least that’s what I keep telling myself).

If you know me or read this blog, you know that I am a self-professed raceaholic.  I love races and have run well over 100.  I have signed up to run in the dead of summer in Fort Worth and in 6+ inches of snow in NYC.  The longer I have run, the more picky I am getting with my races.  No longer do I want to run a race in the middle of winter.

Granted, there aren’t many races to choose from in the NJ area during the dark winter months.  The weather is unpredictable and the roads can be icy or snow-covered.  I am just tired of being cold.  I am tired of waiting at the start line in minimal clothing and finishing the race with a chill that won’t go away.  I am tired of my hands losing feeling and getting a cold after long winter runs.  I am tired of running winter races.

So what does that mean?  It means that I am wussing out and heading to the treadmill during the cold days.  It also means that I won’t be running a race till warmer weather rolls into NJ.  I just wish every race could take place on day that is 50 degrees, overcast and dry…that would be awesome.
