Favorite Moments of 2012
Happy New Year! I wish I could tell you that I had some fun plans consisting of multiple black-tie parties followed by ringing in the 2013 in Times Square but…I can’t. Hus, L and I camped out in the house and didn’t even make it to 9:30pm. L was gracious enough to wake up at 4:30am today so we were able to celebrate with Hawaii.
2011 was full of changes for me with a marriage, pregnancy and job loss. 2012 was full of changes as well but only good ones.
We welcomed Lucas into our family – Just 13 months after we got married, the husband and I welcomed L into our lives. April 20th, 2012 is, by far, my most favorite day ever. Every day since has been equally as wonderful, adventurous and exciting.
I made my grand return to running - It was just a measly 2 mile run that started me back on my postpartum running journey. Since then, I have logged over 700 miles and completed 5 half marathons, 1 25k and almost 1 marathon.
I trained for and then didn’t run the NYC Marathon – At first I was really upset by the cancellation of the NYC Marathon but in hindsight, I feel the opposite. I am actually glad it was canceled and entirely for selfish reasons. The week leading up to the race we were without power, freezing and emotionally drained from Superstorm Sandy. I put in all the training and doubt that my body would have been able to carry me over the finish line on that day.
I conquered the 2:10 half marathon goal – My 1st postpartum half marathon was a disaster and I doubted I could ever be fast again. Less than 2 months later I ran a 2:08:08 at the Trenton Half and felt like my running self again.
I adjusted to be a staying at home mom – Being a stay at home pregnant lady was super easy but things changed in April. I love being a stay at home mom but it does come with some adjustments. I’m still working on balancing housework, playing with L and everything else that comes with daily life. I also have no idea what to do with all my nice work clothes.
2012 was an awesome year and I can’t wait to see what 2013 holds for us. I don’t have any set 2013 goals and I’ve never done resolutions so I’m just going to try a run hard, love my family and be the best person I can.
