Spooky Sprint 5k Race Review
After last week’s successful stroller 5k with Mr. L, I decided to sign us up for another. We left our house around 8:30am and headed to the Spooky Sprint 5k in Somerville, NJ. The race started at 9:30am and after a quick bottle in the car, we made it to packet pickup around 9:15am. I am not usually so relaxed when it comes to getting to races but Mr. L has changed my priorities. He needed a bottle, so we ran a bit later than normal
.
This was L’s 1st time in the BOB without the car seat attachment. I figured it was time, little man can sit up unassisted and crawl. What was I waiting for???
At 9:25am, the race director called everyone to the start line. Mr. L and I lined up in the back again. I wasn’t worried as much about getting caught behind walkers because this was a road race and the streets were really wide. The race was timed gun to chip and Mr. L and I passed the start about 5 seconds after the gun.
Mile 1: 9:53
I was feeling good but didn’t want to go out too fast. My goal for the race was to beat last week’s time (31:30) and to keep my pace under 10 minutes.
Mile 2: 9:50
I find it so funny that fellow racers do not like to be passed by a stroller. Some try to keep up with us before eventually falling behind and others comment on how embarrassing it is.
Mile 3: 9:37, .1: 8:46 pace
The last .35 miles of the race was uphill. That is not a friendly finish for a stroller runner and I was able to “sprint” in.
We crossed the finish line in 30:05 for a minute mile pace of 9:45. L and I beat our goal of a speedier 5k than last week and we left happy. Well, I left happy and Mr. L left sleepy.
The finish line had some good food and the swag bag had some interesting items…
Tampons and men’s sunglasses…those are 1sts!!!!!
Tomorrow I have the Shades of Death Half Marathon to round out the spooky race weekend!
