Share NJ 5k Race Review

Friday’s Workout: 2.25 mile run/4 mile stroller walk

Saturday’s Workout: 1000 yard swim/3 mile stroller walk

This is my 1st race review in months and it is exciting!  I didn’t have to wake up early for this race because Lucas’s morning wakeup call is always between 5-5:30am, such a difference from last year.  After going thru my usual morning routine, hubs, Lucas and I walked over to the start of the race.  The beauty of the Share NJ 5k is that is in held in my town and even runs just one block from my house.  I quickly picked up my race # and hung around waiting for the race to start.

The Share NJ 5k benefits the Share NJ, an organ donation network.  Many of the runners are from groups representing organ donors or recipients.  The atmosphere is one big party with tons of fun for the kids and the local radio station playing tunes.  I think Lucas will love to come to the race with my next year but this year, he just hung out in his stroller.

The gun shot off at 9:15am and we were off!  It was already pretty hot and muggy out and since it’s my 1st race back from baby, I decided to make it my goal just to finish without walking.  The race loops around town and after the Mile 1 marker, I spotted the husband with Lucas!

Mile 2 was full of hills but then it was flat to the finish.  I finished the race in 34:35 for a min mile pace of 11:07.  This was probably my worst non-pregnant 5k time but I don’t really care.  It was my 1st race back at 7 weeks postpartum and it helped keep me motivated to run even though I’m always exhausted.

The Share NJ 5k is a fun local race that I look forward to running every year.  The post race food was a great spread of bananas, bagels, chips, yogurt and water.  The race swag was just a cotton t-shirt but there are tons of vendors at the race site.

So, with my 1st postpartum race behind me, I am looking forward all the other races on my schedule.  This 5k time is my jumping off point and I can only get faster from here.

What was your 1st race after injury or baby?  Did it help motivate you to keep going?

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I am 33 wks pregnant and really really can’t wait to get running again. It has been paused in the latter part of my pregnancy as my hips and back have given out. I now have inspiration and hope for planning my comeback run. I love your goal of not walking. Makes A LOT of sense. Congratulations and I love all your planning for the next races :-)
