Postpartum Update: Weeks 5 & 6

Today’s Workout: 1.5 mile run/3.5 mile stroller walk

RW Summer Streak Mileage Total: 16 running miles/24.5 stroller walking miles

I was a bit late in getting my week 5 postpartum update done and it suddenly turned into week 6!  So, I decided to combine the two weeks into one post.  This past Friday, Lucas turned 6 weeks old and we have been enjoying so many smiles.  We spend our days taking stroller walks around town, hanging out in the park, visiting the library and drinking Dunkin Donuts iced coffee (me not Lucas, ha!).  The past 6 weeks have flown by and I finally feel 100% recovered.

I had my postpartum doctor’s appointment last Tuesday and got the “all clear” from the doctor to resume my normal life.  Lucas came to the doctor’s office with me to visit with all the staff who helped bring him into this world.  I just adore my doctor (so does my husband) so I brought him some nice bottles of wine as a thank you.  He was very excited for them!

How Have I Been Feeling? – Great!  I made my grand return to running nearly two weeks ago and that has been going better than I expected.  On Saturday I ran 4 miles and wasn’t even sore the next day.  As I get stronger on each run, I am less intimidated by my goal of the NYC Marathon in November .

How Have I Changed? –  Two weeks and zero weight loss on the scale.  I am wondering if I am one of those women who breastfeeding keeps on weight instead of shedding it.    That would stink. :(  Even though I haven’t lost any lbs, I have definitely lost some inches because pants are zipping and shirts are starting to be a bit looser.

Breastfeeding - About the same as prior weeks and that’s not going to change.  My original goal was to breastfeed for the first 3 months and I think that’s going to happen.  I admit, I really don’t like breastfeeding.  I don’t feel like it makes me bond more with my son than bottle feeding and I find it generally uncomfortable.  I will continue to do it (albeit not exclusively) for 3 months but I’m not sure we are going to make it beyond that.

Workouts – Run Run Run!  YAY!  I am dreaming about bike riding with the husband but until someone else watches L or until he is big enough for a child seat, that isn’t going to happen.   I bought myself some new workout clothes and I’m so glad I did. I feel better about my changed body and am not so turned off by what I see in the gym mirrors while on the treadmill.

Eats – Fish is back and I’m loving it.  I haven’t eaten Mac & Cheese in weeks but sushi still isn’t appealing.  Before pregnancy, I loved sushi but now I can’t even stand the smell.  Did this happen to anyone else? Did your palate change?

Life in the Run Bake Race Household – We are definitely getting the hang of this whole parenting thing so our days are becoming less chaotic.  Lucas isn’t the best sleeper and isn’t like your “typical” newborn.  He doesn’t take multiple naps a day but prefers one morning snooze of 30 minutes and one afternoon nap of 2 hours.  He still wakes up every 3 hours at night to eat but quickly goes back to sleep.  Last Friday he fought his sleep and was up from noon till 10pm!?!!?  Needless to say, my head was about to explode from the screams that happen for about 6 of those 10 hours.  Ughhh

Can’t believe that 2 months is almost here.  I have a feeling this summer is going to go by quick!

For me, when I stop worrying about weight the easier and faster it starts coming off. Even if you do hold onto a couple extra pounds you will be in tip top shape after all those 5k’s you just registered for! And yay for new workout clothes!

I havn’t been able to eat salmon since I got pregnant :( I’m hopeful that comes back to me as we have an abundance of awesome fresh wild salmon up here in the PNW and it’s so great for you. I would hate to miss out on that.

So glad your getting back to yourself and feeling so great!!!

  2. Two months? Oh my goodness!

I, too, was a BF who didn’t reap the weight loss rewards. I guess it’s more incentive to run? Either way you are looking great. Keep it up!

Yay for feeling back to normal! I’m glad running is going so well! Are you still thinking of running the 5k in Red Bank next weekend?

Alright, you are already putting me to shame with amount of miles you are logging each week! Nice work girl!
