Pretzels For Dirt
My husband goes through binges with my baked goods. For weeks, he wants just oatmeal cookies, goes cold turkey and then wants just banana bread. This morning he requested a treat he hasn’t asked for in a more than a year – soft pretzels.
So, while he conquered the mound of dirt that was delivered to our yard today, I made him soft pretzels. Fair trade since he’s lugging around the dirt so I can plant my flowers this Spring.
I always use the Smitten Kitchen pretzel recipe found here. I don’t make them small because husband likes to use the pretzels in place of bagels, stacking high the salmon and cream cheese.
The only downside of the soft pretzels is that they taste best the day you bake them. Next day pretzels aren’t so good.
Whenever I make pretzels, I always deliver half to my neighbors. They love them as well.
